GOUPIL GALLERY OF GREAT WAR PAINTINGS. Antique book featuring a collection of war paintings with accompanying descriptions. Binding tight, interior clean. Each page is either a plate or decorated narrative. Pages gilt edged all around. All plates present with tissue guards; tissue guard for "Sacrifice of Family to Country" is loose. Forest green boards are in good condition with mild wear and bumping to corners and spine ends and slight rubbing along spine. Gilt and black decorations on front board - gilt is very bright! Paintings include: "Departure of the Squadron" by Fazet, "Episode in the Siege of Saragossa" by Girardet, "The Charge" by Walker, "Episode of the Siege of Saragossa" by Girardet (yes, it is a different work), "A Despatch Bearer" by Neuville, "The Triumph of Clovis" by Blanc, "The Emperor Honorius" by Laurens, "The Flag and the Army" by Protais, "The Sacrifice of Family to Country" by de Tours, and finally, "The Defence of Paris in 1870" by Barrias.
