Franz Xavier Habermann (German, 1721-1796) American Historical Print, "La Destruction De La Statue Royale A Nouvelle Yorck (The Destruction of the Royal Statue at New York)". An imaginary view of American revolutionary soldiers, assisted by free blacks and slaves, pulling down the statue of King George III at Broadway and Bowling Green, in New York on July 9, 1776. The title is engraved backwards because the work was intended to be shown on a wall or screen using a "magic lantern", an optical device that projected the image by means of candles and mirrors. This type of print is also known as a "Vue d'Optique." Framed approximately 20"l x 15"h. *There is a water stain in corner of picture*.AS-IS.
